Over the last month The Garage has been lucky enough to be the chosen charity for two events.
The first of these events was a non-uniform day hosted by Magdalen Gates Primary School but this was no ordinary non – uniform day as it was decided it would be a pirate and princess’s themed day. So this meant another reappearance for Captain Yax (last seen at the Halloween parade). But even more exciting than this. Pirate Joe donated his time and performed a set in a special assembly. The pirates and princesses of Magdalen Gates went wild and they all looked superb in there costumes and it was great to see so many smiles in the assembly. £83 was raised for Big Breaks bursary scheme which enables children and young people from disadvantaged circumstances to have equal access to enjoy and develop through watching and taking part in the performing arts.
The second event was organised by The Mischief Tavern and was headed up by Marianne Manfredi who kindly said she would do it for The Garage. I personally found this to be a lovely gesture as I was co-founder of The Mischief FC Sunday league football team. My role within this event was to get as much of the original team back together as possible to form a 7 a side team named The Mischief Legends to play a match against Mischief Ladies and a contingent of Mischief Pub goers. All Matches were played in a friendly fun environment the event inevitable ended in The Mischief Tavern were all profits made from BBQ went towards the Big Breaks scheme also and everyone gave generous with £306 donated to Big Breaks scheme
All the money raised from both events goes straight into The Garages Big Breaks bursary scheme, which supports vulnerable young people to gain skills and confidence, to make new friends and gain an increased sense of belonging.
Thanks so much to Magdalen Gates Primary School and in particular Liz Earnshaw and Head teacher Mrs Fahy for thinking of us, and Marianne Manfredi and all Mischief Legends who supported this event and donated generously and lastly The Mischief Tavern for supporting The Garage your support will help us change people’s lives through art.
