REHEARSALS HAVE BEGUN FOR MY FIRST PANTO: CINDERELLA

25/11/2016

This week I started rehearsals for My First Panto: Cinderella

Oh no you didn’t.

Oh Yes I did.

Oh no you didn’t.

Oh Yes I did

Oh no you didn’t.

Oh Yes I did

And all I can say is what a blast we are having. Day two has just finished and we completed the basic staging of the whole piece. As a director, my process is to work very quickly, I stage scenes very quickly allowing the room to discover the shape of the piece and then when we return we add more levels and details.

I have a confession to make, I have never directed a professional Pantomime before, my only experience of this theatrical style was the am dram village Pantomime that I used to be in when I was younger, and I even directed one of them when I was 17. So the nerves I felt going into this job were greater than normal. I’m happy to say they soon disappeared; we have assembled an amazing team of actor musicians to work on this show, who are such talented and giving performers.

The rehearsal room has been filled with laughter and music for the last two day, often the actors are suggesting musical moments that they can add on the accordion or clarinet. It’s a very nice placed to be and I feel very lucky to be working in such a nice environment.

Day three’s plan is about fixing musical moments and we are going on a little trip to the toddler dance class that The Garage runs. My First Panto: Cinderella is being created for young people aged 2- 5 and their families. It’s very important for All-In Productions and The Garage that the audience are engaged at all times, so by spending time with this demographic will allow us to really tap into this age group.

I will report back how it goes later.
